Beyond the Bar (Korean title: 에스콰이어: 변호사를 꿈꾸는 변호사들) is a 2025 JTBC legal drama, also streaming worldwide on Netflix. Starring Lee Jin-wook as brilliant but aloof lawyer Yoon Seok-hoon and Jung Chae-yeon as rookie attorney Kang Hyo-min, the 12-episode series follows Hyo-min’s growth as she faces ethical dilemmas, firm politics, and tough cases under Seok-hoon’s mentorship.

Written by former lawyer Park Mi-hyun, the show was praised for its authentic legal storytelling, strong character development, and the leads’ chemistry. It topped Netflix’s charts in Korea and entered the global top 10 non-English series list soon after release.

Personal Review:

As someone who lives for a good courtroom drama, Beyond the Bar had me from episode one. I absolutely love how the series showcases a powerful female attorney (finally!) who owns every courtroom scene with both grace and grit. The legal dialogues are sharp, emotionally charged, and surprisingly relatable.

Sure, a few moments felt a little predictable—but honestly, I didn’t mind. Most episodes left me hanging (in the best way), especially with that slow-burning, unspoken love between the two leads (like… can someone please just say something already? Or do we need a court order for that?).

I’m already counting down to the next season—hopefully with even more intense courtroom battles and finally a breakthrough in that almost-love story (I swear, if they walk past each other in silence one more time…). If you’re into smart, character-driven stories with just the right amount of heart and courtroom fire, Beyond the Bar is definitely worth the watch.
